Just Published

Tons of new books are hitting the bookshelves this fall.  Mystery, thrillers and suspense are the big sellers.  I noticed quite a few vampire thrillers released in September and more, to be released in October.  I like a good whodunit myself, with an occasional romance suspense.  These are some of the books I have read or heard about.  Let's start with...

Lucky Break
Carly Phillips
Harlequin HQH
9780373774012

Bad Blood is not enough to get two lovers apart.  This is a good Corwine Curse Tale!

Unacceptable Dealth
Barbara Seranella
Dunne
0312347987

Ex-junkie, Ex-con, Ex-prostitute, Munch Mancini, has tuned her life around, making good money as an auto mechanic. This is a heart wrenching thriller that peeks at politics behind police action.

9800 Savage Road
M. E. Harrigan
Forge
9780765317964

This is a NSA and CIA dictated storyline.  Not suspense driven, more so about obtaining insiders information, at its best.

Angel Time
Anne Rice
Knopf
9781400043538

This one want hit the bookshelves until October, but from good sources, this is a deep, save the soul story.  This is about salvation after committing the ultimate sin, "Thou Shall Not Kill".

Blood Game
Iris Johnansen
St. Martins
9780312368128

Another one that want be out until October, but I had to mention.  This is a fast paced serial killer thriller, with gothic overtones.

The Dead of Winter
Rennie Airth
Viking Books
9780670020935

A haunting story of a young murdered polish girl in wartime London, that puts John Madden on the trail of a ruthless hired killer.

Just Finished...

With the holiday, Labor Day gathering of family and friends at my house, my blog got put on hold.  Now that the dust has settled, I discovered a thrilling thriller.

The Last Child
John Hart
978-0-312359324

John Hart shows why he is an Edgar Winner as a extraordinary storyteller.  Hart's third novel, The Last Child is a thrilling thriller. This is the story of a 13 year old boy, Johnny, obsessed with finding out what happened to his twin sister.  This,  coupled with a life filled with more drama than a 13 year old should face. The depths of emotions and storyline will keep you reading.  The chracterizations are on the point.  This is a heart breaking story, with unforgettable chracters and deep emotions, at its best.

Six Suspects

Vikas Swarup
Minotaur
9780312605032

In case the name doesn’t sound familiar, this Vikes Swarup, you know , Slumdog Millionaire. This is Swarup’s long awaited second novel exploring diverse views of modern day India in the form of a thriller.

Vivek “Vicky” Ray, playboy son of the Home Minister of Uttar Prade, is an awful individual, and that is putting it mildly. After a five-year murder trial, ended with him receiving an acquittal, decided to throw a party to celebrate. It was during this blowoutbash, he is found shot to death.

This is not your ordinary whodunit. This is a thriller, with the police identifying six suspects, each of whom is carrying a different gun. This story tells the tales of each suspect suffering some life threatening issues all at the hands of the brazen Vicky. All, with plausible reasons to want him dead.

This is an ambitious undertaking, with complex plots, assorted characters and a bit of humor. Rich with India Culture, this is a fascinating cannot put down book!

Just In....

As If By Magic
Delores Gordon
Soho, August 2009
9781569475881

This is the third Jack Haldean 1920 Historial Mystery. George Lassiter, an old WWI Flying mate of Private Investigator Jack Haldean, breaks into a house, he believes he owns. Suppssedly empty, instead he hears voices. Sounds like the murder of a woman. Leaving quietly was his intentions, only to be arrested and accused of attempted burglary.

Why he was there and who owns the house, he tells his friend Jack Haldean, who comes to his aid. Jack investigates and discovers owners of the house are relatives of George. With all probability, instigated this bizarre plot to steal George out of his bequest. As Jack investigates further, he begins to suspect something else is going on.

This is a fast pace whodunit. This is not another WWI story, this is a historial mystery that gives you a reality sense of London just after WWI.

COMING UP....

Peace, Love and Murder
Nancy Holzner
Five Star, August 31, 2009
97815947753

This is a interesting whodunit, with Bo Forrester, the main character. Raised by gentle parents grew up in a commune, given the name "Rain bow". When Bo reached the age of 18, he had to leave the commune, so he joined the army. Two years later, he comes home and finds the commune no longer exists in Rhodes, New York. It is now a subdivision. To make matters worse, no one seems to know where his parents went, except somewhere out west. Driving a cab while seeking info on his parents, he runs into a bit of trouble.

Being accused of murder, sets out to find out who did the deed with the help of a usual love interest. I enjoyed this one and look forward to a sequel, with Bo heading out west to track his parents.

Beloved Vampire
Joey W. Hill
Berkley Heat, August 2009
9780425227954

This is the latest Joey W. Hill, who is known for vampire thrillers. Beloved Vampire is the story of a human servant, Jessica, who kills a master vampire and is to be executed. According to the ruling Vampire Council, no Master vampire is to be killed by his servant, and get away with it. Doesn't matter how evil and cruel the Master vampire. Filled with action and who comes to her aid, makes this a fast pace entry in a great vampire saga.

What's Next...

Sweet Restraint
Beth Kery
Berkley Heat, July 2009
9780425227695

With the twists, turns, suspense and of course, romance, this will be hard to put down. Sweet Restraint joins the other two books by Beth Kery as a "keep turning the page", kinda book. Shane Dominic, a special agent in Chicago, hasn't been able to stop thinking about the woman that left him to marry some one else. Shane is finding it difficult to stop loving Laura Vasquez. A women, he loves with every ounce of his being, for over 13 years. Things could not get any more drama filled when the husband is a prime suspect in a global theft ring thaat Shane is investigating.

The two main characters, Shane Dominic and Laura Vasquez are strong, straight as an arrow personalities, with a hint of life experiences and suspicion. Is she telling him the truth? Can he be trusted? Romance suspense is my favorite genre and this one is a page turner. An erotic emotionally gripping adventure, deserving a spot on your 'to read' list.

Burn
Linda Howard
Ballantine, July 2009
9780345861

Am amusing romatic suspense thriller filled with plenty of high seas action. Jenner Redwine, discovers how life with family and friends changed after she won the lottery. This is Linda Howard at her best. I was kinda slow in picking this one up, but I am glad I did. It was a fun book and the spins and twists of who kidnaps who made this an enjoyable thriller.
